Rear mech troubles

Hi there folks,
I am having prolems with my XTR rear mech, when I am in 1st or 2nd and on the middle ring or the granny, the jockey wheel on the rear mech is touching the cogs on the block causing the chain to not run smoothly. I have adjusted the tension screw on the back of the mech to the max, this has helped, but still not enough to give clearance. Any body else out there had similar problems and fixed it? If so how?? Any clues are welcome, Thanks.

What about a longer tension screw? It's a common size.

Thanks, had thoiugh about this, but I think it will come off the stop which its tightening against (due to the screw being straight and the adjustment operating on a radius ......hope that makes sense).

Ha, I am now running into this with a bike I just put together.

I'm using a 32T max cog and a long cage Deore derailleur. I've adjusted it to a point where the end of the screw is just barely catching the stop.

I'm still getting some noise but it's tolerable for now.

What is the solution? I know some people run a 34T so there must be something I'm missing.

Cheers
