Opinions on this bike?
Hi all! I'm looking for a beginner bike. There are some easy mountain trails near me that I want to go on as well as a paved trail I've been riding for a couple weeks on a bike share bike offered by Zagster. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something I can ride a few times a week that won't fall apart on me in the next two years or so. Money's tight right now, so the budget's very low. Under $200 is my goal. I narrowed down some choices on Craigslist and want to know if this bike will be ok:
2003 Trek 6700 for $100
17" (I have a 29 inch inseam so this should be ok, right? I can still try it out when I see it in person)
"Has upgraded front shocks to a Rock Shox Judy fork. New Continental MountainKing tires. Has scratches from use. Includes a frame-mounted tire pump. Rear downshifting trigger may need adjustment. It sometimes skips a gear when downshifting."
What kind of repair might it need given the seemingly minor problem stated in the description? Should I keep looking? If so, any brand name or specific bike I should look for on craigslist or ebay?
