Clipless something?

Hello,
I own a specialized hardrock pro 2003 and i ride it without any special things on the pedals. However these things came with it and i dont really know how they work. If you could show me a shoe store or something similar that would be great.

please ignore my nasty carpet

Well, as far as I know, you mount these ugly things onto the pedals and slip your feet in them when pedaling.

Those are the front of a toe strap/clip system of pedals.

Kind of bleh really. Here is what they are supposed to look like: http://lib1.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/...arkToeClip.jpg

Go with good stout platforms, or upgrade to real clipless. Those cheapie pedals are pretty much worthless.

As one who has ridden and raced with toeclips in offroad situations, I can say that I'd recommend people either go clipless or stick with platforms. I have found toeclips to be the most dangerous of pedal systems while mountain biking.

Toe Clips make learning clipless pedals alot harder IMO. You are forced to react quickly by pulling your foot straight back to get loose. That same technique WON'T work with clipless pedals. You have to twist your foot sideways to release it.... If anyone has these on their bike now and you plan to someday go clipless, REMOVE them immediately..... Ride around for a couple of weeks w/o any foot retaining system, then go clipless....

Look at some of the combo deals from pricepoint. You can get a set of egg beaters+some clipless shoe for 110.
