I'm interested in making a fair offer on a Litespeed Toccoa. I believe it is a 2001 model. Size ML. It's equipped with XT components: f & rear derailleurs, brakes, shifters, hollowtech crankset, and I'm not sure, but probably an XT rear cassette, XT hubs attached to Mavic 517 rims. The front fork is Rock Shox SID XC (80mm?). The stem and seatpost are OK...I'll probably change them out. OH...and litespeed handlebars.

This bike looks like it has never been ridden and is in very good shape. My landlord is managing an estate sale and doesn't know what he has on his hands. He gave it to my neighbor (bicycle bob) for 60 bucks. GOOD LORD!!! Now they're thinking of putting it up for auction...I want to get it before they make this move. So.....bike forum crew...what is a fair price for this rig!??!!?

If you like the bike, and I mean really like it-as in it fits you and you are getting exactly what you want, then I would pay up to 60% of the new cost for a used bike in pristine condition. Unfortunately, ppl on ebay will usually pay more than that for a Ti bike.

Personally, I'd try to lowball him first, just to feel him out, and see if he makes a counter-offer. Come with the cash on hand, and let him see it-that way you can make it seem like it is a hassle for him to bust his ass trying to sell it somewhere else for a couple of bucks more.

I like the cash in hand approach. Bicycle Bob is an older guy, and a good friend of mine. Shizzy. I may have to pass this one up if 60% of retail is a fair price to offer. The whole situation is funny. Bicycle Bob is retired and spends his days rebuilding/restoring beach cruisers and selling them on craigslist and ebay. He thoroughly enjoys watching people bid (and over-bid) on his ebay auctions. I can only imagine what will happen when this bike hits the auction block. Anyway...that's all he normally deals with...he didn't know anything about this bike. Maybe I should arrange a poker night this weekend. The old guy loves Texas hold em, and I'd be thrilled to win that bike in a heated poker game.

I'd say somewhere around 50% it is 4 years old..... 15% initial loss and 5-10% for each year afterwards...of course there is somepoint where you have to realize what's in the bike and throw out a method like that
