Computer for FR bike

Is it worth buying a computer for my FR bike, which is also my only bike. I really would like to know how far I am going and how long it takes, but don't know if it would hold up. I'd rather not need to take the computer off everytime i want to jump the bike. Any suggestions? I want something cheap, not really much more than maybe $40.

At my shop our comps staert at 35.99 and that is basic time, date, stop watch, and speed, around 45 is where you get average speed etc. which would be quite helpfull if you race

I got a cateye astrale 8 for $30... it has cadence (which means more wires and sensors, and something you attach to your crank), avg speed, etc.

Cateye also has an Enduro 8 for a little less, it has a thicker cable and no cadence sensor.

I have the Enduro 8 and really like it, but it is not on a freeride bike, it's on my Haro V2
