I've Got a Question For You GUys

I'm just starting to start mountain biking, and im looking into getting my own bike.

I want something inexpensive but sturdy and lasting. I've been looking at the GT Avanlance 3.0 and the Mongoose Pathfinder. The mongoose is cheaper and has dual suspension, unlike the GT. Is GT really that much better built of a bike than the mongoose to give up the extra 100 dollars and rear suspension, or is the frame and gears really that much better on the GT?

How much are you looking to spend?

Since the mongoos is approx. $200 online I'm going to assume that is your price limit.

First thing, I CANNOT recommend the mongoose. For $200 you can't get a decent FS bike. Plus the mongoose is an x-mart bike, the frame will be very heavy, components cheap and the fork is very poor quality.

The GT is better. My aunt has a 2.0 and it has held up to mild trail riding(mostly fireroads, some rock gardens and stream crossings).

I would recommend the GT over the mongoose.
