Go for it! Its a great bike! I was trying it over some loose 4"-6" rocks and it handled extrememly well! It is heavy though so don't expect to be going to fast on it unless you're going downhill.

yes but i still want some up-close pictures of the bike just so i know what to expect...

it would be a huge favor if you did do it, but if you didn't, well no harm done...

What parts in particular are you looking at, well want to look at? I may be able to get some pics from my brothers camera as long as what you want to see is consistent between the Bruiser 1 and 2.

actually i rather like the bruiser 2, but the thing that i hate about it is... the frame colour. and also the fact that i'm poor, and can't afford it. How much do you think it would cost to get a bruiser 1 then upgrade to discs? (fork can come later, after i thrash the hell out of the stock one...)

I upgraded my bike to disc brakes, got Avid 8" for the front ($90) and Avid 6" for the rears ($70). I paid $350 for my bruiser out the door add the $160 in brakes and few other parts, I'm at about $550 or less total into the bike.

I can post some pics up tomorrow of the bike and upgrades if you want too. It will be cool to have, the stock bruiser 1, bruiser2's beast and my upgraded rig.

If you don't mind the low-end fork that comes with the Bruiser 1, and if it's wheels are disc-capable, I would take take the same path as jsi. You really can't beat the avid brakes. The Hayes my bike came with are still good, but the avids are better. I'll post some pics once my brother gets home with his camera later today if I can.

As promised, here they are:
(the water bottle holder is held on with two hose clamps, the bikes do not have holes drilled for screws)

score, thanks a lot!

i think i will upgrade mine to discs, but i'm only gonna do one... should i disc the front or rear first? i normally brake with the rear, because i had this bad experience with front breaking... mainly flipping over XP

You get about 70% of your stopping power from your front. It's very easy to lock up the rear even with rim brakes so it makes more sense to have discs at the front first. You shouldn't be consistently using your rear brake on trails either because you're causing skid marks. And if you do it on concrete, you make marks on the concrete and also destroy your tire pretty quick.

What swifferman said is definitely true, though you had a bad experience you SHOULD do more braking with the front. The only reasons I have for supporting getting the rear disc brake would be that:
1) Your past experience and obvious dislike to the idea.
2) If you bend the rim a little with disc brakes, performance will not suffer.
3) Since you mainly use the rear brake, you will want consistent braking rather than the in-consistencies that could be from rim brakes(dents, wobble, water)

Your best bet overall would be to try to get both, but the decision is yours.

I think you should get the front disc first. Weight transfer and all that... Just tighten the rear brakes and apply the rears before applying the fronts and you won't flip over.

Or save up and get them both at the same time. (Thats my best advice so far, as I plan on doing the same in a couple of years.)

oh chris one more thing.

what do you think of the shifters? i remember when i tried it out at the LBS, the shifter index trigger was placed very awkwardly, and had a long travel... do you think those should be replaced? (you have had them for longer, you would probably know...)

Yeah, it feels a little weird, but I would say its above average (compared to a bunch of other shifters). Its up to you if you want to replace that too, but thats not the kind of thing thats high on my priority list. It takes a full pull untill it clicks so it does take a while to shift, but it does its job.

yah the frame has all the mounts already and the hubs are disc ready. Even has some bosses along the chain stay for zip ties for the rear cable. Look at the 4th pic down on my series.
