    Getting a more upright riding position

    I've had my new MTB ('04 KHS Comp ST) for about a month and am about to bring it to the LBS for the complimentary one month checkup & tuning. I think my riding position might be a bit low and stretched out. Looking in reflective windows, my back looks to be about a 45 degree angle to the ground when I am seated and holding the handlebars. After riding for 3 hours my neck and shoulders will feel fatigued from holding my head up and forward. Otherwise the bike is great.

    Should I ask LBS for a different stem to help with a more upright position? Or maybe I should stick it out if this is a more efficient riding position. Any other ideas or comments? Thanks.

    Different stem setup.

    Shorter stem. Maybe some more angle to it as well. Possibly a higher riser bar

    Get used to it. Looking at my mates ride their mtbs, it looks like they should be riding a comuter with a bell and flag the way the sit up straight with what looks like a stick up their a$$. I like my mtb set up like my roady (helps that it's a very small frame). Makes pedalling feel much more efficient, helps with climbing, doesn't seem to hinder descending (compared to my straight backed mates who still go over the bars), plus I don't get a sore lower back. Once your muscles are built up it's not an issue. But then I'm just a fool roady coming back to the sport...
