Hi,
Found a used Klein Pulse Comp Bike. I think it's a '97. For $500. Here are the specs:

is this worth it? It hasn't been used much.

Hard to tell w/o seeing the bike, but regardless, that's still a bit much for a bike that old with those components on it.

If all the parts were XT or XTR, and the fork was a JUDY SL, then I'd say yeah, good deal.

But,......we had a couple Pulse Comps in our shop and had one leftover from '99 that we could barely give away (Brand New). I think we ended up selling it for around $600. That was a newer model, better fork for a little more than what this one is going for.

I'd keep looking!

yeah $500 is a bit steep for such a bike.

to me, that bike isnt worth more than $300, but that's just me, and i dont know how much these bikes go for new, nor how good the frame is. but based on components...

Well, i know Klein is an amazing bike company. I've ridden some of their bikes. I have a friend who has the pulse, it's an amazing bike. I'll wait, there will most likely be another one on e-bay for a cheaper price. Thanks for all your help!

hmmmm....
I bought a friends Ralleigh peak STX... full stx rc components for about 350 US, ($500 canadian pesos) it was a '98
it had a indy c fork, which is pretty flexy, Im not a big man, 5-8 and 180...
and the brakes rubbed with every peddle stroke...
Try to talk em down to at least 350... or at most I should say...
if they want to sell... they will if not... try to find out what it is worth via your LBS.....

Well, the one reason this bike was brought to my attention was because it was a Klein. I know that Klein makes one of the best bikes around. I've read and ridden and it has an awesome light frame but, they come stock with bad components.If you know about Kleins, then you probably can see where I'm coming from. I'm thinking is the frame itself worth the $500? I've read at Mtbr.com and everyone who wrote about it, loved the bike.

most bikes dont come with that good components... the resale value for a used bike really isnt too great... the price value drops a lot even if the bike was newer and barely ridden on.

A '97 bike is kinda old, best to check the frame for any cracks and ask the owner about his riding style.

Furthermore, like the others have mentioned, the parts are not much to shout about for $500 AND a used bike!

Kleins do have a good reputation, but the Comp was a more "budget" minded frame. Not all the super nice features found on the upper end bikes. Not saying it's a cheap frame, just not "super"!

The frame may be in good shape, but another thing to consider would be any intentions on your part to upgrade to disc brakes. Are there any disc tabs welded to the frame. Older frames may or may not have these tabs.

Thanks anyways, I've realized that the older bikes may not work well with the newer technology, disc brakes, shocks, etc. Anyways, thanks for your help. I'm now looking into FSR's or Klein Attitude's......
