Hey all, a search turned up not much of anything so I figured I'd post a standalone question... What is the best "bang for the buck" saddle/wedge bag out there? I have been running a Trek branded (I'm a logo wh0re what can I say) 80cm bag from the LBS and after the zipper freezing up and breaking on two I figure it's time to look elsewhere. I only carry a spare tube, levers, folding tool, tube repair kit, CO2 pump kit, and occasionally a cell phone.

I want something that is low profile and most importantly high enough quality that it won't break after 3 weeks! I don't suppose I care if it's clip on or simply velcro, but whatever via your experiences you guys find works best for you.

Oh, and while I can appreciate those of you that use the camel baks (I use one for hunting so I'm not against them) but for biking I'm not interested. I want something that stays on the bike and I forget about unless it's needed.

Specialized wedgie bag.

It has lasted 2 plus years and still looks new (minus the mud). It has a great strap system (all velcro) that is very secure and easy to get on and off (since I use it on three different bikes)


I find it fits a Multitool, spare tube, inflator, 2 or 3 catridges, tire levers, with a little room left over for cell phone, keys, power links, tube repair kits, etc. It sounds like it should fit your needs well.

I use a CamelBak also but only for rides over 2 hours. On shorter rides a water bottle will do fine.

I never thought of Trek accessories as being 'brand name'.. Specialized, yes, Trek, no.

If you were able to harness all of that intelligent thought and come up with a pertinent response to my question I’m certain my problems would be solved. However, if you are unable to accomplish this how about busting out the AOL dictionary and figuring out what “STFU” means and then practicing it…

I use a Jandd Mini Mountain Wedge on both my MTB and road bike. It'll fit what you need, but it's probably a bit small to fit your cell phone with the rest of your stuff. It uses a buckle instead of velcro on the straps so you can compress it if it's not full. Performance has it on sale for about 10 bucks. I've been using the one for my MTB for about 3 years.

Thanks guys. I checked out the Jandd bag and while it looks pretty straight, unfortunately I think it would be too small for what I'm wanting. I will try to locate a specialized bag and check that out as well unsuspended. Thanks..

I think thats the same one i have. and i use my camel back to hold most of my stuff. I know specialized makes a bigger bag. Mine is also about 2 years old now and is holing up perfect, no problems at all. I like how its got a low profile and isnt to big..Its a deff good buy IMHO

I have a Timbuk 2 wedge, (x-large size) on my Stuff, it's my favorite one

Look no further than Topeak's line. You can choose from standard or aero. They offer various sizes (with the medium aero being expandable even). Choose velcro or clip (the clip on setup works real nice). They're way sturdier than most. They're unobtrusively black.

I've tried quite a few brands, and the Topeaks are my favorite. I'm using a medium aero QR and a small aero QR (but not at the same time).

Based on what you said you'd be carrying, a small might be big enough (if you don't mind using the exterior straps to hold your spare tube---they're perfect for it). If in doubt, go with the medium, though it's a bit beefy looking.

Cool guys, I'll check all of these out. I'd actually seen the Topeaks and liked the looks at them so maybe I'll give em a shot. Thanks a lot..

ps. I use an ancient Blackburn saddle pack, a very small one.. it's cool because it's contoured exactly like a Flite type saddle, so it fits exactly under the saddle, but can hold the essentials. Also, when it gets muddy, the 'r' and the 'n' on the logo at the back become indistinguishable, so it reads 'Blackbum', which is usually appropriate. I doubt they still sell them though. It's a decade old.

It's all good Robo, and thanks for the word on the Blackburn. I think I'll probably try out a Topeak or a specialized as pricewise they seem up my alley.
