Looking for a new bike
I'm looking to add something different to my "fleet". I currently have an early 90's Gary Fisher Tassajara, an 09 26" Rockhopper (being sold to help w/ funding) and an 11 Stumpjumper Comp 29er hard tail.
The two bikes that are in consideration are a 2012 (or 2011) Stumpjumper FSR 26er or a 2011 Stumpjumper Epic 29er. The FSR has more travel than the Epic, FSR is $400 cheaper than the Epic and I already have a XC bike.
I'm not really sure that I need more travel but there have been times that I wished I had more travel while traversing steep and rocky sections. Can the FSR handle light "downhill" duties? I'm not looking to do any big drops but sometimes there are a few "drops" and jumps that a full suspension bike would make more comfy
Any suggestions? I'm sure there are some opinions

I've heard "quiver", and I've heard "stable", but I've not heard fleet!

In my case, I think fleet works best. I have 7 road bikes ranging from an original 1958 Raleigh Lenton Grand Prix to a 99 Bianchi Volpe (swiss army bike), the 3 mountain bikes I listed and a bunch of frames/forks/boxes of parts that are waiting to be built into something. I really need to clear some stuff out....

Btwin Rockrider series
I have a basc firefox bike, which is good if you go on level 1 rugged terrain as the suspension is not as good as higher end bikes like Cannondale. I've heard of the series which is supposed to be reasonably priced and has some good features too. This blog article is quite helpful , it sums up three bikes in helps

Can you post any pictures of the terrain you want to ride with the N+1? Just generally the FSR sounds like a better choice in your mind already. It is a solid bike! In a different direction, how much do you weigh and how do you like to set up the sag?

As requested
The rocks vary in size from bowling balls to suitcases. At this point I ride this area on my stumpy hardtail 29er and I'm pretty happy but after watching my buddy go through the same are on his Fuji Outland rc I'm kinda having full suspension envy.
My stats, I'm about 6' and weigh about 230#. As far as sag goes, I've never thought about it. I have the front shock rebound set pretty stiff and tend to ride w the fork locked out until I start a technical downhill section. Does that help any?
