Schwinn S-30, anyone have one?
Hey all just looking for some all important feedback here on a used bike I m currently thinking about purchasing. Its a Schwinn S-30 dual suspension, can get it from my LBS for $400. Its got the Rock Shox Indy front fork, a Fox spring rear shock, and I believe is 7 spd XC gruppo. Bike handles well from my short test ride I ve taken but I cant get it out on a trail. SO I m needing some real world feed back, how does it handle down hill, in turns and over ride quality. This seems to be an older model bike so I ve not been able to find much info to help me out. Hopefully someone here has some experiance here that can share with me.

At that price range you are better off getting a hardtail.

If you really want that bike, you can get it at wal-mart for $230 or you can get the s-40 with rapid fire shifters, and a front disc at target for $240, but it propably won't be put to gether well or not have a good warrenty.

X-mart bikes are **** regardless of how they dress them upThat bike is plenty old and not worth $400. I agree with Kona get a hardtail.

I have a 98 S-30, that I purchased from a local bike dealer. I paid a little over $900 for it back then. It was an excellent bike then. Now Schwinn has the "retail" version at wal-mart that doen't look like much good. My old bike is much better than the new ones. The only thing not good about my old rear suspension (rock shox) is that the crank is on the swing arm. So there is very little rear suspension movement if you are not on the seat. This is really a lush XC trailbike. Good for climbs because the suspension doesn't move when pedaling. Not really a good downhill bike.

Thanks for the reply Padraig, upon further research I ve realized this bike was/is made in two models. The early model that you said you had, and then the XMart version. The one I m looking at happens to be the non xmart version. I ve now test rode it and its a solid bike. I would say my one concern is that as discribed above the rear shock is less then active. That isnt always a bad thing but I m a fly weight (130 lbs) so I tend to need a bit more sensitive rear shock in order get a little more shock absorbing ride. I ve looked around this is a hard bike to beat for what I got my LBS down too. Thanks for all the info from everyone.
