full suspension or hardtail?

It's been months and I still haven't even decided what type of bike to get. I live in a pretty rural area so it's not that easy to just go and test ride a bunch of bikes. I like FS bikes but I don't really have $1000 to spend, although I will if I have to. The problem is that I went off a jump on my old hardtail, landed too hard on the saddle, and broke my tailbone. It's still really sore after long rides. I'm wondering if a full suspension bike will help with that, or will it not make that much of a difference?
