I ride a 2004 GT Avalanche 2.0 and love it to death. I upgraded the pedals to Truvativ Platforms and got a new seat. Added a Trip computer , water bottle holder x 2 , a road pump, under seat bag.
I looked at the new GT 1.0 with disc brakes and the awesome .5 which won bike of the year at it's price class ($1,000.00).
I also keep looking at the Specialized Rockhopper Comp Disc Pro which is also a really nice bike. Trek and Cannadales I don't care for much. I looked at a Giant Rein I believe and that was a nice riding bike.
I know the bike that rides the best for me and all is the way to go , but I would like to get opnions on GT mountian bikes. I know the .5 won at it's price class and gets praised in the mags. What do you guys think of that bike and the 1.0 with disc brakes???
My bikes doesn't have disc brakes and I would much like to have them after my experience with rim brakes in heavy mud. My buddies Giant Yukon has disc brakes and he didn't have any brake trouble in the heavy mud.
What about Truvativ Cranks? How do they stack up against other brands on the market. GT uses them as well as just bout everybody else. I assume there good but are they really good???
I love there platforms I just bought , they stcik on my feet extremely well. I have a pair of Shimano SPD's but I don't have shoes yet so I don't have experience with Clippless. 2 of my bike friends use em and have different opnions. In technical trails which I ride alot, my one friend had alot of trouble getting in and out of them as he had to unclip alot of times. We all had our feet down on these damn killer trails.
