GF Tassajara or Cannondale Jekyll 500

Hi. I have been mountain biking for a couple of years now and have a problem. The bike I currently have is a Gary Fisher Tassajara from 2003. I bought it brand new. The GF is getting to be too small and I just had an accident that wouldn't have happened with a full suspension. My friend is offering to sell me his 2002 Cannondale Jekyll 500 for $500 US. My friend replaced the stock headshok with RockShox Duke. He will give me both. He is also giving me his clipless shoes and pedals. The Jekyll only has about 100 miles on it too!

What do you guys think I should do? My friedns say that I should do it, but my family (including a 10 yr mountain biker) say that I should just keep the GF.

My only problem is that I will be buying a car soon and need as much money as possible. I also will be needing to replace the GF within a year. As of right now, I am leaning with the Jekyll, but that will be all that I spend until the holidays. Any suggestions??

What kind of accident was it, and how would it have been avoided with a FS bike?

for under a 100 miles that bike sounds pretty good. If it is actually in that good of shape and it fits and you like the way it rides, then I'd say go for it. I too am curious about a wreck of that nature.

Thanks for your input guys!!

The accident was like this...
I was going down a long hill at like 17 to 20 miles per hour when I hit a rocky patch. The rock directly in my path was sharp and pointed in my direction. I managed to get my front tire over the rock, but my rear tire didn't. It got about half way over before the tire blew. The blown tire was due to a pinch flat. When I tried to steer off the trail to get out of the way of other riders, the flat sent me for a 20 to 30 foot slide. I was alright and the bike only got a few scratches!!

FS probably wouldn't have saved you on that one. You also mentioned that it was "too small". I've had a GF Tass for about 6 years and just finally got an FS (Giant NRS). The GF will become a SS eventually.

As for the Jekyl...$500 is a steal if it fits you and you like it. I rode a lot of FS bikes before settling on the NRS. I didn't like the weight distribution on a lot of others (Trance, Blur...). Go ride that same hill on the Jekyl and then decide.
