HEY FOLKS. What do you guys do to clean your helmet. I think i read in MBA that a spritz of rubbing alcohol will do the trick. I've been doing that, but I'm not really satisfied. The pads are really drenched with sweat after a ride. I ordered one of those Giro helmet pods, but I'm wondering if leaving a wet helmet in a "bag" is a good idea......

Wear it in the shower, serves too purposes:
1) Cleans the helmet
2) Protects your head if you slip and fall

lol, I just spray mine in the shower and then hang to dry, it's ready to go in the morn !

Wash helmet********** what is this washing you speak of? Unless you mean riding in rain to get mud off it and spraying stuff in it when it gets too smelly.

I rinse my helmet off every so often and like I said above I hand wash the pads in some Woolite.

Yeah I probably should clean mine properly..... the huge blood stain on the inside of the mouth gurad doesn't look pretty but it sure makes it loo hard core Little do they know it is part of the litre of blood that came out of my knee at Thredbo, it is sentimental blood

Want to smell nasty, two of my kids play hockey and that stuff gets nasty, even at 6 and 10 years old, you can barley stand in the locker room when they are changing.

Anyway, they make some spray for hockey gear, not sure what it is called. My wife uses freebreez on our kids. Many have gone to using different underarmour type products to help keep the nasty sweat off. Some use underarmor skull caps, I got one when I started riding and it seems to work well....I don't have a lot of hair up there, so it keeps the pads from digging in too.

i've always wondered about hockey gear. I don't play so I have no idea what they're like but can't you just wash them? people are always talking about how much hockey gear smells...

i dont think you can put hockey gear in the washer, there is however, places that specialy clean sports gear. mine isnt that bad i just use fabreeze and its fine. ive used it on my helmet too and it helps alot

I use only water to wash mine off. Other then that, i do nothing except common sense things

haha, i hate the smell of my helmet. i doubt i can even get rid of that disgusting sweaty smell.. i need a new helmet anyways

I use Lysol for my pads and gloves. kills the stuff that makes them stink so its longer before they stink again. Ill try mixing some woolite in there next time with the Lysol.

I handwash the pads and wait for whatever mud is on the shell to dry...it comes off pretty easily with a couple of swipes of the hand.

Meh, why bother? I have a protective layer of spiderweb on mine...plus the dirt.

I have washed the padding inside. But I don't think I have ever washing the helmet itself

First time I read this sentence, I had a mental pic of a woman in the backyard chasing and spraying two kids in hockey gear.

Soak the pads in woolite, then rinse in water. Simple, and actually cheap if you get the generic stuff.

Try Mirazyme. I use it all the time on my whitewater kayaking gear. If you think hockey gear smells bad, try taking a whiff of my kayaking gear after it's spent a wet 12 hours in the cockpit of my kayak on the way home from a road trip. Mirazyme contains an enzyme that eats the odor causing bacteria. Disinfection the natural way.

I toss mine the washing machine on the "Delicates Cycle", cold water along with my jersey and shorts, then hang out to dry. Same thing used to work wonders on the detachable pads inside football gear, and that stuff gets FUNKY!!
