Why is it that everyone down here is from Ohio? (Except me of course) I'm really not that familiar with riding spots to the south of Tampa / St. Pete but you really won't need anything more than a FR bike. You'd be better off with something you can ride XC on as well as that's primarily what we have availiable

You're moving right during PRIME hurricane season. It's not normally like this, but due to global warming (nobody said it was going to happen all at once ) or whatever the Hurricane season has bascally exploded. There have been 7 named storms so far and it's only July. Granted things could always be worse, but much more of this and I'm considering bailing for either Atlanta or Minneapolis.

Atlanta would be a bad call. Especially considering that more damage was done in GA (including a ton in the Metro Atlanta area) than FL by Hurricane Dennis.

One storm causing relatively minor damage (when compared to the four storms that ACTUALLY hit Florida last year) isn't going to make me change my mind

As far as riding in Ft. Myers??? Uh, NOPE! Not much. Flordia MudCutters created some trails, but they're mostly flat XC through the Florida Scrub (palmetto bushes).

Tampa Area has some decent trails, but about 2 hrs. drive from Ft. Myers.

There are some good trails in S.FL believe it or not. Quiet Waters Park has a lot of stunts.

If you can pick up last month's issue of BIKE mag. They did a pretty good article on Freeriding in Florida.

Links.

www.ridgeriders.net
www.swampclub.org
www.omba.org
www.freeridesouth.com

Those are from memory, so they might be .com .net or .org not certain.

Sell the DH rig. A medium duty Freeride is what you'll need. I know guys that ride Bullits, but there is a lot of XC trails in and between the fun stuff. If you get a FR bike, make it one that pedals well and isn't overally heavy.

Come over to the cape. We got hundreds of streets you can use for courses if you feel like blocking them off....or ride the fields... unless you feel brave enough to try to use a bike in the Ukipan.

I ride in northern florida. there are some trails around panama city beach (pine log state forest) and blue mountian beach trail. They are mostly flat and a little swampy at times

Oh, there's some decent enough riding in Florida, just not in Ft. Myers. Sure Sin, you can ride Myachahatchee in North Port. Some of the guys have built a good amount of stunts there, but right now with all the rain the banks of the river have overflowed and the riding is impossible.

If you want to hit some fun trails head up to Alafia River State Park near Sun City Center, or head over to Mulberry (Lakeland area) and hit the T.O.E. or Carter Road. The T.O.E. is more FRish and Carter Rd. is more XCish.

If you've got a weekend to spend, cruise up to Belleview and hit Santos Trail. One of my favorite places to ride in FL. Their campground is now open, so you can stay right near the trailhead.

There IS some riding in FL, just not for a DH bike.

Santos does indeed kick ass. It's the 2+ hour drive that kills me
