The tassajara is $500 and the iguana is $450 at the LBS. The tassajara has deore front and deore lx rear deraillers. But the Iguana has a slightly better fork and disc brakes. Which one has a better frame? And which one would you pick?

I bought the tass about a month ago. Personally, I would take the better deraillers over disk brakes, though I am not too impressed with my tass's v-brakes.
As cliche as I sound, ride both, see which is more comfortable. I love the Genesis geometry of the GF, however, some do not.

I would go with the iguana. I own one and i haven't had any problems with it. If you are going to do serious mountain biking you will want the better fork, its a life saver on the wrists, and with better suspension you can go faster downhill The shifting is already great of the iguana but if you want to make it better ditch the stock chain and pick up a Sram PC990 it's silent and the shifts are nice and crisp.

Alright, I just test drove both the Tassajara and the Iguana. I liked the feel and the position of the iguana better. However, the Iguana's disc brakes sucked compared to the Tassajara's V brakes

I tried the Iguana too, and ended up getting an 04 Kona Blast. The price was better, the bike was more comfortable, and I wasn't overly impressed with the discs on the Giant either. For the riding I do, v's are enough brake. If you can, take an 04 or 05 Blast for a test ride, and see what you think.

Disc Brakes have a break in time. V brakes really do not. I think that it would be tough to judge brakes on the Iguana with just a test ride. I think the disc brakes will be fine after some usage. The only problem I see is that with Disc Brakes on bikes that are around the 500 $ they are more of a gimmic. They sacrafice the quality of other components to allow the bike to have disc brakes at a lower cost. At this level go by "feel" though. If the Iguana "feels" better get it!!! I personally like the GF better when I test road it. Then again I did not end up with a Giant or a GF. I ended up with an 05 rockhopper. Pick what you like after all no sense in getting a suggested bike by someone else if you don't like it
