Bike wont stay in 1st 2nd or 3rd?
 

I seem to be plagued with little problems that i simply have no control over as to why they happen. I take the bike in to the lbs have it serviced seems fine after a test ride and when i hit the trails i notice it :rolleyes: . Ive been back and fourth numerous times already and its starting to become a hassle (4-5 times in the past month). So now iam going to try and fix this myself. The bike will not stay in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear. It also doesnt seem to downshift to 8th gear if Iam coming from 9th. Now after some reading on parktool.com It seems that i have to loosen the L screw but keep it to its tightest setting to have a clean shift? Do you guys have any other inputs??

It sounds like you rear derailleur is just out of whack. Follow the instructiuons on Parks site all the way through and see if that works for ya.

Does it shift fine in the rest of the gears?

If so, then you probably have a bent derailleur hanger. Take it back to the shop and have them try to straighten it for you. Tell them specifically it shifts fine in most of the gears but not the upper 3 or 4. That will cause the red flag about the messed up derailleur hanger.

If it's not too bad you can try resetting the cable and the barrel adjusters. Follow the directions at Park Tool.

hmmm tried everything and this time it wont get into first at all and it wont downshift into 8th from 9th. I didnt touch the front der. at all but for some reason thats having a massive lag upshifting into 2nd and 3rd. :mad: Well shes going back again to the lbs for the 5th or 6th time this month.
