After flirting w/ FS bikes, I finally hit upon this bike. I'm hoping that the steel frame will be a little smoother than an Al hardtail, but w/o the added weight or technical complexity of a FS. The components on this bike are out of sight.

I should have it in a week and am anxious to see whether ordering a bike sight-unseen is really as foolish as it seems (but I had no choice, no Jamis dealer w/in 300 miles had a Dakota 19" or 21" for me to demo).

Wish me luck! :)

Looks like a nice ride. Hope it works out for you.

yeah, those things are sweet. I wish I could afford one. I like the steel too, it's good stuff.

Steel is a great ride. I have no doubt I'll have my 99 Hardrock commuter through several AL MTB builds

Eesh I never reccomend buying a bike without a test ride due to the fact that so much os based on the "feel" of a bike.

Yeah, "eesh" about sums up my feelings too. I'm really putting a lot of trust in the reviews I've read and the "on-paper" geometry of the frame.

However, I figure since I don't know my a*s from my elbow as far as most things are concenred, even if I did demo it, I probably wouldn't have been any the wiser ;)

If you picked the right size you should be fine. The daxota xc is a great bike. It has a nice quality steel frame matched to a good build kit. I love Jamis bikes and consider them good buys in each price range.

Sweet. I consiederd getting one of those before I built up my 8500. Unfortunately my lbs stopped carrying jamis a few months before I was able to place my order. I would have loved to have a steel frame, they look so cool and from what I've heard they ride awesome. HAve fun with it.
