I'm 6'1" and ordered a 21" hardrock...did I go too big???

I test rode a 19" and a 21" hardrock and I felt more comfortable on the 21" frame. They all were trying to get me to get the 19" ( I thought b/c they had them in stock) but, I just liked the feel of the 21" better.

Did I make a bad decision?

im 6'2''/6'3''...and i rode a 21'' hardrock for a long time (put about 1500 miles on it)

it was a great fit for me when not dealing with very rough terrain, very effieceint, however it handled in quite a mediocre fashion, my new XC bike (20'') handles much better but is just slightly slower in smooth situations

so no, not a big mistake, the frame will be only a tiny bit too long (unless youve got short legs, in which case, screw it)

Plan on reproducing? When it comes to a MTB you want about three or four fingers worth of space between the top tube and "the boys". They were telling you 19 for a reason.

I'm 6'1"-6'2" and I have a 21" Rockhopper. It fits me great. I don't know what my inseam is but my top tube fit is like Raiyn described, about 3-4 fingers between the top tube and me.

You might want to go back to the LBS and check your standover height on the two bikes.

The Rockhopper frames are my favourite!

I'm 6" 3" (but mostly all leg with a 36" inseam). I ride a 23" frame for XC, and a 21" frame (to allow more clearance for "the boys" should I slip) when I'm XC racing or riding a bit more technical stuff.

Get the 19". If you need to add more leg room, you can always raise your seat post another inch or two. If you still feel cramped, you can buy a longer stem or flat bars to give you more cockpit room.

I always suggest erring on the side of too small vs. too big. Too small can be compensated for by saddle and bar componentry and/or geometry.

if your 6'1 an ordered a 21" Specialized Hardrock frame your cool. Unless your genetic makeup made you so you were unproportional to the average human adult. Then I'ld say "gee whiz Wally" and probably ride a Cannondale, or something.

I'm 5'9" tall, and one of my bikes is a Large (21"). I ride it often w/o any trouble. However, I rarely straddle the toptube....

If you can stand on the ground (flat footed) and NOT touch the toptube with your Nad's, then you should be OK....

same height as you and I have a 19". Next time you slip a pedal and crush your loved ones, you'll know why.

i'm your same height and i have 2 21" bikes. i don't have a lot of stand over height but there is enogh to make me comfortable. because i have put myself in those positions! I think that each person is different and that you need to go with what feels the best to you. Because not everyone has your same geometry(arm length, etc...). i always tell people to buy what feels the best!
