I think you need to qualify this, in my limited experience - initial tune-up, isn't full really but rather adjust for cable stretch. I don't think the chain really breaks in to care about it - My LBS has made a couple of quick adjustments for front & rear derailieurs, and replaced a defective X chain with a SRAM.
I'm nearing 1000 miles since May on my Trek 820 mtb, and way things are going will probably have the shop do the full tune-up next spring. Otherwise I'm keeping the bike clean, including the drivetrain and experimenting with several lubes - liking most any of the drylubes I've tried.
