crankset....I just got my flat fixed today and I asked the dude about my crank. Since my big-earl crank has the bashguard, it takes up speed. So should I exchange the bashguard for a 44 chain ring or change the middle 32 chainring for a 44 one with the bashguard. I like to go fast but will it be hard from a 22-42???? What would you do?

you'll want that middle ring, unless you live and ride somewhere flat, or are a monster. just replace the middle 32 ring with a 34 or 36. though you'll maybe need a larger bash ring to cover it then. an extra 2-4 teeth can make a large difference. i'm assuming you are in the higher gears in back while hauling @ss, yeah?

or, just replace the bashring with a larger outer. you can still get a bashring to cover that if you want, though then you are talking about something much larger. takes up a lot of rock/log clearance, though that may be a non-issue where you are.
