You've been to all the Supergo's?

I don't know about SuperGo but my bike mech rides my bike after he does anything to it to make sure everything is in proper working order. Obviously, that didn't happen with SuperGo. I stand by my statement, you should have gone to our LBS and not a big "bikemart". You get what you pay for.

Killer B, this thread has nothing to do with Trek whatsoever, he didnt even buy a Trek so there was no reason for your post about Trek sucking. As for the masterlink thing it is like the other links on the bike except one of the sides can actually slide out by being unclipped and then the other side can be pulled out. This allows for much easier chain replacement/removal over using a chainbreaker.

The implication is that SuperGo sucks at putting his bike together. Also, you probably mean the general term of defamation, since slander is usually verbal, while libel is written or broadcast.

The comments that would be easier to consider defamation, (but are actually more common), would be "My LBS can't put a bike together correctly." It's a statement posing as fact. "My LBS sucks at tuning bikes." is closer to a gray area because informal verbage "sucks" connotates opinion rather than fact, but the meaning is obvious.

Basically, it comes down to whether the statement has a negative effect, how many people it reaches, how strongly its worded, and whether is provable/disprovable. There is a balance between free speech and defamation of character. If you weren't allowed to speak out against a store, then there would be no incentive for the store to correct their actions short of being sued. Requiring people in an informal forum to use legally safe verbage is beyond the intent of the law. Trying to destroy a business by slandering their reputation is not cool either.

Basically:
mikejo - Loosen up. It was kind of rough to jump on him and imply he's trying to slander SuperGo. I believe the common analysis would be that SuperGo is capable of putting a bike together and tuning it (obviously they've made some money doing it), but that they didn't do a good job in nbgrom's case.
nbgrom - Protect yourself by limiting the context and letting other people determine whether SuperGo sucks. Less offensive and a more intelligent thread title would be: "SuperGo didn't tune my bike properly" or "New bike from SuperGo not tuned properly"
TheFixer - Why the implication that his bike sucks? A StumpJumper is hardly a crappy bike--shouldn't it be tuned properly when new?
FreeridinLoon - I don't understand your comment. In this case, is SuperGo not his LBS? They're not just mail-order. And what does supporting his LBS have to do with his bike sucking?
spleck - I spent too much time on this message and its now fairly off-topic.

I agree with you, my esteemed colleague.

MASTER LINK: Basically any where you break/attach the chain.
It also depends on the chain, shimano has a special pin for connecting links after removing links, but on a new chain out of the box the end link has a regular pin, if you look at each link you may notice one pin that is different. Also some chains have a removable clip holding the links together.

As for the bike not being setup properly:
Did you pay for assembly or tune-up? It was mail-order correct?
If it was mail ordered, you’re the one responsible for correct set-up!
If you bought it from a store assembled and ready to go, then I would say their mechanics either sucks or just had a bad day.

Two bikes from them and zero problems. Wrench with paint in Fountain Valley is pretty good and a nice guy.

Funny thing is I was just at the supergo store yesterday in mountain view, california... I loved the bike selection. I loved the service and knowledgable employees. The help was great. When I ordered from supergo online, I got great deals on things.. [edited by moderators]

Alright Supergo is not my LBS, but my LBS told me to go there to get the 2005 because my LBS was out of stock. Yes I do support my LBS, everything else i have bought/will buy is through them. Yes my title should have been less offesive but I was frustrated because I couldn't ride for more than five minutes without something going wrong (chain, brakepad pin, deraileur tuning, brake tuning). I took the bike back to the Supergo and the first person I talked to was difficult and tried to tell me the chain broke because it was manufactured improperly even after I showed him the shimano pin that was not set properly. Next I talked with the manager who was much more helpful, and worked with a different mechanic. The new mechanic was helpful and knew what he was doing. Everything is worked out right now and I get to really test the bike out tomorrow, and hopefully nothing will break. I do about 90% of my tuning to avoid problems like these after the purchase.

My name's not sparky its Ryan and I am not trying to offend you (you obviously work for a shop). You probably take more pride in your work than the person who set up my bike. Both deraileurs were setup improperly. The brake pad pin was not set so the pad popped out of the carriage (coming off a 2 foot drop with the front wheel locked up is not fun I got fairly scratched up), and the pin on the shimano chain was not set properly. I paid just under a thousand for the bike and I really dont care if you spend 2 minutes or 2 days setting up a bike, it's your job and your paid to do it. All I care is that when I spend a thousand dollars on a new bike is that it is setup correctly when I roll it out of the shop.

Maybe its me, but I don't expect my bike to be at 100% from an lbs. When I roll it out, I take it home and check it over myself. Then I ride it. Regardless if the part is from an online dealer or an at home dealer. People miss things. I would rather knowing "my" eyes looked at it too

No trek doesn't suck you [edited by moderators]. My buddy has had his trek for 3 years, and it has over 1000 miles of riding on it, still going strong. So I think you don't know what your talking about. In this case, the bike brand has nothing to do with it, but more the stupid lbs who didn't correctly assemble the bike.

I never said it offended me. It's mostly just continuously making you look like more of a Jackass to everyone on the forums. But I do find it quite anoying that you have never onve givena reason and post that Trek sucks for no apparent reason.

I'm done wasting my time with this and everyone elses time who has to read through this. I apologize to those people.
