    disc brake contamination

i need some help here. i bought a used rear 2004 Hayes HMX-1 with 8" rotor.. when i installed 'em, they just plain did not work. they didn't even lock even though they are rears.. it would barely slow me down, my best guess is that the rotors or pads are contaminated.. anybody got a good way of decontaminating them?

once pads are contaminated theyre done, youll have to buy new pads and clean the rotor with isopropl(sp? i know its not right but whatever) alchohol. the new pads will talke a while to "burn in" but you should notivr imidiate improvement. if not then its how your brake is set up.
