Some trails around Tampa, FL??

I've seen a couple of you cats from St Pete or whatever, Im new to the area and Im looking for some places to ride. A guy at a bike shop told me about some morris bridge trails and some downhill trails in Lakeland?? Get back to me and maybe we can meet up and ride too, I live in Tampa near the Bucs stadium.

Now I know you guys are around here somewhere...

I don't live there, but you need to look on mtbr.com at the places to ride section. Florida has 109 trails listed, at least 3 in Tampa, including Morris Bridge.

Yeah I actually found a bunch through some website, and it looks like the tampa area has some nasty looking trails. Alot of them private, so it looks like Im gonna have to join some clubs

There is the Wilderness Park on Fletcher about 1/2 mile east of I-75. (quality singletrack)

Flatwoods about a mile north of the Bruce B. Downs exit off I-75 which has like 30 miles of trails but it a hassle to ride to once you've entered the park because you have to endure like 4 miles of road bike track to get to the actual trails.

By far the best is Alafia State Park though... it has everything you would ever want to ride. Its off the Apollo Beach exit. Its DEFINETLY the best around here.

Croom, Alafia
Are both great spots.

Me and my brother are going to hit up Alafia this weekend, I rode bmx for years and I heard theres alotta fun jumping and technical **** on those trails. Where abouts in Tampa do you live? I live kinda about 10 minutes from USF campus at Dale Mabry and Linebaugh. Im always looking for some new dudes to ride with.

Oh, and also I've heard alot about the private trails called "The TOE," apparently its up north a little and have some badass wood bride sections and jumping...know anything about that? Got aim or whatever?

TampaBmxer 09-26-05 09:55 PM

Yeah the TOE is cool in lakeland but you have to be a member of the Ridge Riders club to have access to it, They charge a monthly fee "very inexpensive". http://www.ridgeriders.net/
They lease the property that trail is on.
Now in lakeland on carter road there are public trails.
I usually go to Croom and occasionally make my way to Alafia once and awhile.
See my profile for my AIM screenname.

:roflmao: Stop you're killing me! "quality singletrack" :roflmao: The place is underwater most of the time and when it's dry the trails offer no challenge. Alafia blows it out of the water.

Eh, its close to my house so I train there alot. I guess I am just partial to it. Its definetly better than BBD in my humble opinion.

And... if you read on I mention that Alafia is defiently the best around here. Jackass.

Listen up Sparky before you start something you can't finish.

I did notice the bit on Alafia. I wasn't commenting on that.

I was commenting one the fact anyone who has ever ridden a park like Alafia would NEVER call Morris Bridge and the trails in it's proximity "quality singletrack". It's like calling McDonald's "fine dining" because it's convenient.

Socket155 09-29-05 08:45 AM

Sparky? Haha, what a zinger!

What are you implying by starting something I can't finish? I just want to be YOU to be clear on it.

Now to the issue : Just because a place isn't as challenging as Alafia doesn't mean it can't be fun, I live over here, work over here and with my gym schedule I don't have a lot of time to get down to alafia so I ride at Wilderness Park alot. I like it. I don't care if snobby ass bike mechanics don't, and it doesn't mean that other people in the area shouldn't swing by and see if THEY like it.

Don't know when to quit do you?
The reality of the situation is this: Wilderness Park isn't "quality singletrack"

It's fine for someone who's just starting out, but those with even a slight bit more experience will find that the trails there lack any real challenge.
My comments have nothing to do with any imagined snobbishness on anyone's part (although I think a gym rat is the LAST person who should be calling others snobs) It has to do with the fact that the trails are weak in comparison with others in the area and the entire system lacks any real diversity in the types and difficulty of the trails presented.

You enjoy your McTrail there Bubba

TonyDanza 09-29-05 07:38 PM

Well, anyway.

Im going to go ride Alafia this weekend. Ill let you guys know how it goes. That is all depending on I can get a hold of a left crank arm, its stripped beyond belief and its real agrevating, I went up the University bike store and they didn't have much, so I think I might go to chainwheel drive in clearwater where my folks live and see if they got what i need.
