Jumpy Gearshift
Hello, I'm new here, and was hoping that one of you (or more) could perhaps help steer me in the right direction. I'm having some problems with my gear shift. While cruising in gear (It doesn't matter which gear) every eight or ten turns of the pedal, or so, it feels as though the chain slips, and for an instant, the pedal falls through abit, without propelling my bike any further. When I flipped my bike, and spun the pedals, I noticed that every time the slip occured, my rear derailer would lurch back abit, and then snap back into place. Does anybody have any ideas as to what's afflicting my Huffy, and if so, perhaps any possible solutions to my problem? Any response is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Solution - 16 ound sledge hammer and a trip to the LBS, not Wal-mart.

This will happen if your rear cogs are starting to wear and need to be replaced. Although if that's the problem, it will typically only happen under heavy loads, also it will typically happen only in one or two of the cogs, most likely the ones you use most often; so it does seem liekely that something is just totally borked back there.
Is it an X-mart bike? If so, they tend to die rather quickly...

I took your advice. Though i did not take to my Huffy with a sledge Hammer, I took to my LBS and made off with Kona Kikipu.

Everyone rags on huffy, neh? Is it really that much of a joke? That's sad.. I thought it was a nice bike.. anyway, it's my sister's now. I took your advice, went to a real bike shop, and made off with a Kona Kikapu
