Tire removal on disc specific rims

I change tires all the time on my old Cannondale F300 with rim brakes and it's super easy, but today I tried to change tires on my Rockhopper with disc specific rims and it was so difficult that I decided it was not worth the trouble.

Is tire removal from disc specific rims generally more difficult than on standard rims, or is this an issue related to my particular rim/tire combination?

probably your tire/rim combo. my trailblasters did fine until I put them on SunDS2. then they were tight as crap. if you can find a quikstik(a brand of tirelever) it will help a lot. they are about $2-3 and will not break, pinch your tube, or scratch your rim, and have enough leverage to get even the tightest bond off

Funny enough, those Sun DS2's are the rims that I'm fighting with. I looked over on mtbr.com and there were tons of complaints about tire removal on the Sun DS1's also.
