Is it alright to take a bath after a strenuous ride? how many minutes after do you recommend? Would it be a cold or hot bath?

No problem with bathing. Your companions are likely to be thankful for it. A hot bath or shower right after a ride can really help with recovery and fatigue. The cold water could make you cramp up. Eat and drink within an hour too, this will help your body repair itself more quickly so you can ride the next day.

It may seem like an unmanly thing to do, but just do it. I've found that it almost completely reduces soreness the next day. Even if you don't have time, try sitting in the shower.

Most definitely. USA Cycling recommended using baths as a therapeutic method for helping muscles to relax and recover after a strenuous ride. You're good.

Nothin' wrong with a good bath, how do you suppose cowboys and other men cleaned up before showers were commonplace? Now if you have candles, bubbles, other smelly things and enya playing- well then maybe we have a situation...

To answer the question more directly: I would wait until you feel comfortable getting in the water and then use a temperature you prefer, if you are hot and sweaty you may prefer a tepid bath over a hot and steamy one, but try it out and see how it works. Everyone is different, so if you cramp up, don't repeat the same mixture. Feels pretty damn good, especially if you have jets in the tub
