700cc on Mtn bike

Has anyone had any luck putting 700 wheels on a Mtn Bike Frame? They fit the only problem my canti-brakes do not have enough reach to hit the rims.

Does anyone know of any Canti-brakes that are longer? or have more reach?

Not really interested in Disc brakes or getting a new Hybrid frame. I ride pavement mostly.

any help is much appreciated.

These are the "29 inch" bikes that are coming out now. I am under the impression that you need a modified frame to make it work although it may be possible with some frames. It would be interesting if you could make it work without modifying the frame. I am not sure if you would get much benefit though. It may just be as easy to buy some road slicks for the 26" rim that is standard on mountain bikes. There is a large selection of road tires for 26" rims out there.

Wrong answer. They are the "29 inch" bikes, aka 29ers, but they have been around for awhile. Mine was bought new in 03 i beleive. Just now is there beginning to be a large support from the mainstream bike world.

I am thinking of trying the same thing...Compare the diameter of a 26" wheel with a mountain tire on it and a 700c with a road tire. They are pretty similar. I am not sure how a 700c wheel would work out with a suspension fork though. Please post if you try it out. One more tidbit, the whole brake issue is moot if you are running disc brakes....disc brakes are so sweet.

another rim brake option are the Paul Component Engineering Moto BMX brakes. super cool, but price-y.

That's what I meant. They have been around for quite a while actually. I should have clarified that. I was speaking in relative terms as they are relatively new in the biking world. I didn't mean now as in this year is the first one.

Thanks for the reply, this is just what i'm looking for. However I noticed they say max width is 25mm, has anyone tried these with 30s or even 35s?
