Everyone starts out as a nub, so just deal with it and remember not to get pissed later on when some noob makes a mistake because you've been there.

Dude who gives a crap about any of that, go ride and then go ride some more. If you put on an act you will be found out eventually and then you'll look twice as dumb. You obviously already have something in common, just ask if you can tag along and try and keep up.

ride... alot.
as much as you can.
get really comfortable with your bike, and practice stuff like log crossings, track stands, etc. If you try something and you dont make it. try again, immediatly. i fell on a downhill once and it took me 3 months before i would try it again.
but mainly, dont sweat the noob thing. it happens to everyone.

I assume you are a teen, I cannot imagine an adult asking this. In this case the best thing to do is wait a few years until you realize it does not matter what the majority of people think. Practice riding alot, it helps I'm told.

Final answer from a confessed roadie:
Mountain bikers tend to be more laid back about who has what level of ability. Go ride and have fun and surely the people you ride with will help you out. Otherwise get some new friends.

odly enough i was in the opposite position when i was a noob. i brought my freind along and i was in the best shape and i had more exp on bikes so i burned them. then they were doing really really bad and i knew they would not take mtbing to heart so i droped them and rode solo. now i am confident and looking for someone to ride with(no luck yet)
basicaly i like to use a metaphore for this type of stuff. "you just came across a desert, so you start heading to the other side. a little bit in you make out the slightest glimps of water, so you head for it. you have no clue if your mind is playing tricks on you or if it really is water there. you just hope when you get there your thirst will be quenched." basicaly it means you need to go out into the dark sometimes.

You will also find that by riding with people who are above you in skill you will probably progress faster as you are pushing yourself in to more things.

Oh, I see. He says he is older on the internet. No one ever lies on the internet. If you look at a few things in his post you might be able to see a few clues. Sure he is probably a really old guy who uses young guy maskings to hide his true identity.

Still kicking.
Words of wisdom. Don't worry about it, worrying about it makes one make unthought out risks and those never work out well.

Have fun and don't worry about being a noob. I"m a noob and just go out to have fun. I"m already hanging with guys that have been riding for years and actually turning heads on the trail. I wreck a lot too, but if you ain't wrecking you ain't riding..
If someone gives you crap, just punch them in the gut and tell them to shut their sausage holder or that's where the next punch lands..

If their worth hanging around I'm sure they'll be more than happy to teach you things as your going along - if they won't then simply their not worth your respect.

Throw the stick!!!!
Just make sure that you take some decent crashes while they can see you. That alone makes it worth while for me to take out newer riders.

I ride alot, but it is all by myself. I would kill to have someone to ride with even if I was the noob. Get out there and learn, you are luckier than you know.

I was the noob today. From now on, I will be a non-noob.
I took my brand new 05 hardrock pro disc (end of season sales are great!) out to the trails with 2 other co-workers today, and was thoroughly abused by the trails. I didn't eat it, but I did have to hoof it a few times. As I get more comfortable with the whole shifting my weight around thing I'll be able to stay on the bike more in the really steep parts.
Lots of fun. My road bike is now very jealous.

What i've seen with mountain bikers is that the ones who will be condescending with people who are new to the sport and are honestly trying to learn, are the ones who may have just started themselves within a year or two. I used to race and train all the time, and I never had an issue with people like you. It's the cocky knobs who want to proove something that I have to give the smackdown to.

just do your best, dont act like you know more than them and ask for advice on difficult techniques such as high speed cornering and take their advice seriously. most of all, have fun riding! if they see you enjoying yourself, they will likely see that you are a passionate rider, and, be happier to teach you and invite you to ride with them even if they are more advannced than you.
