Article in a german magazine:
Suntour will come back into the high-end shiftinng market.the focus is on XTR! With lots of parts out of
magnesium they think to be able to get ahead... a rear derailer, magnesium twist-shifter/brake-lever
combination and a magnesium crankset are announced.in the works are also mechanical and hydraulic
disc-brakes.
Nothing about this on the Suntour website but they are listing a crank that is 9 speed compatable. They also have a sweet looking high end suspension fork, and some disc brakes. This has the potential to be real cool. Suntour IMHO had better performing MTB stuff in their time. Here is the Suntour website link and a pic from the German mag. http://www.srsuntour.com/index.html

It would be nice to see Suntour back in the game, but I think they have lost a lot of ground since they were a real contender. Unfortunately Shimano is the dominate force right now. I think Suntour is going to have to aim for mid-level stuff too. I think the people spending $$$ on XTR level equip. may initially be reluctant to buy new high end stuff from Suntour. A lot of people probably don't remember when Suntour made quality stuff and dominated Shimano.

I think it would be great if they were back in it. It would be nice to have an option when buying such high priced equipment. And competition between the two companies would only make each one better hopefully their prices would go down as a result.

I think I'd have to agree with Rider X...though it is great to have Suntour back in the fight, they'll be hard pushed to get back devoted riders from XTR...

Still, I'd certainly consider a switch, I need to upgrade my Deore XT 2 thumbshifters anyway... *grins*

Cheers

Rich

HOOAH!!!!!! (military thing) This is awesome news!!! I'm getting tired of shimano, shimano shimano.Anything different is good enough for me,I hope with this that their(suntour) products will become more available.I haven't been able to find a dealer at all, and the website only lists sidetrak.com, but they don't seem to have anything.

The third hand link is no longer valid. They shut their doors March 29.

Yeah....XT Thumbies are go!!

Actually I do run it in friction mode as the indexing is knackered on it...bless them...

I wish they'd bring them back, as I'm not really into this STI malarky...

Yeay everyone it's Friday

I would like to apologize for my mis information on Third Hand. I was not aware that they had extended their time open. Once I got their catalog that said March 29 that is what I thought. Once again I am sorry.

This is an e-mail response I got from the US portion of Suntour.
HI Mark

The name XC PRO will be used on our new forks line the 2002 season. We
have no plans to launch a full line of component at this time with the us of
XC PRO name. We have been out of the component business for 6 years now and
this is a major undertaking as you may realize. We are currently planning
on launching a new line of components that is directed at the cross bike
products, this line will be called NCX. It will be to littl for MT BIke
ridding.

Thank you for the inquiry

Best regards
