good platform pedals? (or recommended shoes w/ platforms)
the title says it all.
i really prefer riding platforms - can anyone recommend some nice ones...? and i've gotten mixed reviews on whether or not it's worth purchasing a pair of mtb shoes if i'm not riding clipless...any thoughts on the subject...?

I think the syncros might be the nicest, but if you don't want to pay the jack for those there are always, primo's, dmr's or the new crank brothers.

I recommend the 611 Launch shoe with Specialized Lo Pro Mag pedals.

A very nice combo. Carefull though on the technical uphill's because I've made burger out of my shins.

Primo Super Tenderizer all the way man you can beat the heck out of these pedals and they still run well. I would reccomend using a vans type shoe if your running platforms. But the primo super tenderizers are really good, they are on all my bikes and I love em. Their only 35 bucks too.

one less horse
Quality of grip is more dependent upon the shoe than the pedals. The platform version of the latter are all pretty much the same thing. You will never slip a pedal if you get some Five.Ten Impact shoes. Seriously. I've never heard of anyone who's tried them recommend anything else.

the specialized lo pros are great. no comment on shoes. most any skate shoes work well. best shoes i ever used with platforms were my adidas molzans (i think that was the name) they were pleather outside with a rubber toe, and they had amazing grip. plus very comf.
my main recomendation is that whatever pedals you get, get some quality shinguard/knee pads. i tore the crap out of one shin from a friends azonic pedals.
that was the last time i ever rode platforms too. just a couple days before my clipless got here.
