Well, that was a pretty damn eventful ride.
Me and a friend (Jae-Sik, or as we fondly call him, Jessica =P) met up in the nearby park and started the 45 minute ride to the top of the "mountain". Nothing eventful there, except I really did notice that each time I did it I seemed to be faster than the last time. Anyway, once we reached halfway up the mountain, we had to go on a wide dirt road (horizontal, no climbs) until the last climb to the top. Anyway, we cycle along the dirt road and there's a police jeep rolling along. It was unusual because a) no vehicles allowed on the dirt road b) it was a police car. It stopped in front of us, the two cops got out and signalled to us, and I thought, what the hell, it's not like I did anything bad. So, we near them, say hi, etc etc and they just ask us if we come down those trails that start from the top. We're like "Yeah" and they're like "That's no problem, as long as you don't build any stunts, last week we found a wooden jump on one of them." (I knew nothing about it so I was like OK). We told him that we don't build any stuff and they're like "Yeah, we were fairly sure, just saying so you know it" and we're like "OK, see you". Now that wouldn't have been too bad except I was planning to make the kicker ramp bigger on one of the dirtjumps in one of the trails. I had 3 plastic toy shovels used for sand but I figured they'd be of SOME use. We were lucky they didn't search our bags. :p So, we continued and when we reached the start of the "Fireman Trail 2" as we like to call it, we got ready for the descent, slammed down our seats, etc, etc. I've attached some pics of it to this thread. It's great fun, smooth (not many roots or rocks so it's equally enjoyable on a hardtail) and REALLY flowy, aswell as steep and if you fall, you fall onto cacti. :D The trail ends on the dirt road, and Jae-Sik got a flat. :p That wouldn't have been a problem, except I wasn't concentrating and wasted two patches before simply swapping out the tube. To be sure, we skipped the dirtjump trail and simply went home by a main road. There's a new trail we've been eyeing to take off the dirt road instead of the dirtjump trail, looks real fun, we'll hit it next week. !!!!!!!PICS!!!!!!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...r/IM004456.jpg Fireman Trail #2 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...r/IM004457.jpg Fireman Trail #2 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...r/IM004459.jpg Jae-Sik coming down the Fireman Trail #2 (at the end the singletrack widens and it becomes less fun, that's why I only stopped to take many pics here) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...r/IM004460.jpg Me, coming down the same place as the previous pic. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...r/IM004461.jpg Same again, except this time I'm going really slow so the pic wouldn't blur and Jae-Sik could take a photo in time :p (still didn't manage though) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...r/IM004462.jpg Me fixing Jae-Sik's flat (I was grinning then but after 20 mins of failing to fix a flat the smile faded away :p) Anyway, that's my not so brief summary of a fairly brief (2 hour) ride. Hope you enjoy the pics, -DC |

Where in Spain is that?
|
That single track looks fun to fly down ripping fast... WARNING: FLYING DOWN STUFF LIKE THAT ON A HT = CERTAN DEATH, if you do as fast as we do... lol.... Who knew you could break a disk brake adapter?
|
drumbum: It's in the Collserola hills, Barcelona.
TheTurtle: Then I've had many near death experiences. ;) It's pretty damn hard to keep a HT under control while bombing down the singletrack but it's doable (at a slower speed than on a fully though) ;). |

nice shots and thanks for sharing. :)

Looks like fun...well, all except the last picture! Had a similar incident yesterday while riding with a buddy...he had a really bad pinch flat that he couldn't seal, and we didn't have a spare tube. Good thing it was only a 10 minute walk back to my house!
|
That's really pretty scenery, and a nice view from that part of the trail next to the cactus. I think it'd be nice to ride or at least visit there, maybe someday I'll get to.
Maybe New Zealand and Whistler also.. wee |
Thanks for the comments everybody, I'm happy you like the pics. :) I'll try and take some pictures of this weekend's ride where we'll hit up a trail even HIGHER than the Fireman Trail #2, now there's a sweet view there. :D
MadMan: Any day you're visiting Barcelona, drop me an email and I can show you around the local trails. ;) PS: I felt so dumb, fiddling with a popped tire for 25 minutes. :p My record at completely changing a tube is at around 9 minutes or so. |
Nice pics and writeup, DC. That looks like a beautiful area.
Looks like you made the best of it without coming to North Carolina - you were missed. But...plastic sandbox shovels? That probably would take some time, at least with our soil. |
Damn, I'm sooooo jealous. That looks like great stuff. I'd love to see it sometime.
|
gastro: :) Thanks. As for the plastic shovels, we figured we'd loosen the soil up some other way and then use the shovels to lift and transport the soil (no large scale jump build, just another 2 inches to the lip height).
chris_pnoy: Whenever you want, pop over and I'll give you a tour. ;) |
