The New Mountain Biking Mecca

Man, Arkansas is turning into a mountain biking mecca IMHO. We now have two IMBA epic rides (The Womble and Syllamo) In Little Rock/North Little Rock we have 10 miles of nice XC in Burns Park and another 35 miles of XC at Camp Robinson. (Both of these are within 10 minutes of downtown.) Camp Robinson is one of the most diverse trail systems I've ever seen. Within an Hour of Little Rock is Cedar Glades which has great fast trails with nice elevation changes and tight switchbacks. They currently have about 12 or 13 miles of trail and is growing by leaps and bounds.

Besides those we have the Devils Den trails, Hurricane Ridge, Old Post in Russelville, Wild Cat Mountain and others I can't even think of right now.

I guess what i'm saying is that if you're looking to take a riding vacation and can't get out to say Moab or you've "been there, done that" Take a look at Arkansas. We rock!

---Just had to post something that wasn't about which bike, fork, brakes, etc. to buy.---

Well, it is quite nice of you to advertise your great local riding. Sounds like a great place to live with all of those trails.

I myself am a selfish bastard and, as such, try and keep all of my local trails as secret as possible.
In fact, most of the northeast sucks for riding. I think they are maybe two trails in all of new york and New England. And one of them is like a mile long and is sandy. With gas prices being what they are, I would steer clear if possible. Did I mention deer ticks and Lymes Disease? Too risky. Play it safe, stay off the trails.

unsuspended - You have probably seen this site but just in case you haven't check out https://www.visionmtb.com . It is a site for people living in your area (I think). I stumbled across it a while back.

The new mecca is in Milford, Mass(Vietnam Trails) or in East Burke Vt(Kingdom Trails).

You know, when those trails are covered by 3 feet of snow you might want to check out some year round mountain biking.

Winter here just means a better view!

Arkansas is just like New Jersey, way too many horses. Besides for a freerider on a hardtail, it is a all year round experience, because of Skateparks.

Arkansas got an extremely positive review in a recent bike magazine article, although I don't believe the author went so far as to use the term "Mecca."

Having said that, congrats on being a fellow member of the "I have world class riding in my backyard" club (Maelstrom is the president).

Does living 45 minutes away from Diablo count?

Great.

I'll have to add Arkansas to my list of "meccas" that are left to visit.

It currently sits in 48th place on the list.

Well since you asked,

The Womble is probably my favorite ride. The only and I mean ONLY problem is that it is not a loop so either you do some road riding, double back on the trail or set up a shuttle. I rode the Ouachita Challenge there this year and will do it again.

I haven't done the Syllamo yet but next chance I get I'll be there.

Burns Park and Camp Robinson - Together they have about 45 miles of single track. Burns park is a little easier to get in and out of and is along the river trail so you can add milage by riding the paved river trail. Good training for adventure races. They do hold an Xterra there every year. You have to be a member of C.A.R.P. to ride there. I think it's still just $10 a year. You also have to go through two military checkpoints to get in but it is well worth it.

I assume you ride out at Old Post. Tell me some about it, I haven't riden there yet but I unerstand they have a race every year.
