Picture Borrowed from East Coast Hucker at ridemonkey.

Remember now, Dual crowns on dirtjump bikes don't mix, unless you have a bike like an evil imperial.

So you are saying I should swap my fork on my freeride bike when it is used as my dj bike?

Actually, drill a few holes after the JB weld, wrap some safety wire through it and then wrap in duct tape.

+-20mm of the original fork installed is your max clearance for acceptable fork upgrade unless otherwise specified. Basically if you bike came with a 120mm fork max you 'should' run is 140mm give or take.

Unless he is talking about a different rule.

I really hope that no one actually rides that thing! The angle of that fork and the lenths of those blades, they'll brake in a heartbeat!

I've always thought those forks look goofy, and I saw it the other day while searching. I just read your reply and found it again.

I frequent pinkbike quite a bit. And I must say the general population is a bunch of ******* with more money than brains. Thats why I'm not a member of the forums, I just go for the buy and sell and photo's.

Why is that? Isn't the real difference the race to axle length of the fork? If you had two 50 cm long forks, but they had different amounts of travel, I don't see how one is more likely to bust the frame. Please tell me if I'm wrong, because I'm in serious violation of this rule (70mm to 120mm).

Regardless of axel to crown, the 20mm of travel rule stands.

first off that santa cruz with the super monster turned single crown, are they effing serious with that? that'll get someone hurt. Secondly Super Monsters have always cracked me up, 300mm of travel (12 inches) that proposterous and lunatical, and cool if you need it.

obviously, some of those forks were put on those bikes as a joke - kind of like the picture of the hardtail i once posted with a moto fork installed on it and like pete fagerlin posting a shot of his turner 5 spot with 888s on it (posted on another forum).

take the second last link for example, do you really think someone's seriously going to install a super monster with the clamps at the top of the stanchions making it a mahoosive singlecrown fork for other than a joke?

from what i've read, you're correct. the real difference is the axle to crown height of the fork as it's what will really change the head angle of the bike, changing the stresses on the head/top/down tube junction. the 20mm rule is a good general rule of thumb though.

in the end, it really depends on what the frame is built and designed to handle. frames like the evil imperial are designed to work with a wide array of forks and fork lengths. there are other frames too... you just gotta find out from the manufacturer what they've designed their bike to handle and go with that.

Again the rule is excluded based on manufacturer rules. Some bikes can handl 70 mm to 170mm forks. Most cannot though. They heavily stress the headtube and...rip them off. I imagine it would also depend on the kind of riding too. If you are smooth and not hucking stuff then it won't matter too much ..I just use the 20mm rule as a simple guideline

And yes a-c is better, must more accurate, but 20mm rule is easier to explain
