bruiser or hardrock
im looking into buying a new bike and ive narrowed it down to the trek bruiser and the specialized hardrock. I wanted to get some feedback from owners so i can make my final decision.

just like many, many people here (including me!)
i obviously chose the hardrock.
i prefer it more because the bruiser just has a weird feel to it, and is more of a beater while the hardrock is more of a do-everything bike, and great for trails.

First off I get the feeling this thread was made strictly to bring up an argument. The Bruiser has been discontinued in favor of the new Jack series. There is really no way to judge the bikes unless you have spent ample time on each. After riding my hardrock for the first time I didn't really like the feel at all. The more time I spent on it the more comfortable it became. I definitely wouldn't call the Bruiser a "beater" however. Yes, you can beat on it and it will keep coming back for more but it too is a do-anything bike. The Hardrock is more oriented for XC rides while the Bruiser is more FR oriented. I think they both have their strengths though.

oh of course, no doubt they both have their strengths. but personally i find the hardrock is more versatile... the bruiser is just too built to do trails EFFICIENTLY and stuff like that.

Whichever one you get, you'll want a nicer bike after a while.
The bruiser wasn't available when I bought my bike, and I probably still would have chosen the hardrock. As far as a bike purchase like this is concerned, you might as well choose on looks and brand. The feel of the bike makes a difference, but you'll get used to either of them. The durability is negligible, you can beat both of them to hell but if you stick with it you'll want a better bike, guaranteed.
