Good Clipless Biking Shoes
What would be a good pair of clipless biking shoes are out there? And what are good quialtys for a good biking shoe that I would need to look for? The Other thread in this forum got me thinking about what kind of shoes I sould be wearing for biking. For stuff like freerding and Dirt Jumping.
Thank-you

Yeah, I just don't know where to find 661 Shoes, and I don't want to buy them off the internet. Cuase I don't know if they will fit me.

Just ride.
I've got a pair of Specialized MTB carbon pros. Light, stiff soles, durable, comfortable. Pricey, but I got a very good deal through my bike club. Love 'em, but maybe that's just my roadie background coming through.

I just got a pair of Shimano MT50. They are really confortable, and stable. They run about 90.00. A little pricey but I think they are worth it.

I had a pair of 661s -- not sure which ones. I ripped through the velcro straps in about a month and a half. I ride XC and I don't think I was being to hard on them. After that, I wouldn't recommend them. Now I'm sporting a pair of Shimano M225s based on a friend's recommendation. They fit well, feel solid while on the bike and can handle a short hike if necessary. They've held up much better than the 661s. Based on the two experiences, I'd suggest something by Shimano.

For over a year I've been wearing Diadora Geckos. No problems so far. Still have a really old pair of Specialized MTB shoes use them for commuting/ backup trail usage.

what you want in a shoe is a stiff sole for power transfer, a grippy bottom( no matter the style) for climbing on a hike a bike, avoid , if possible shoe strings, unless they have a "lace keeper" like my 661 Nuevos to hide the extra string in because they will inevitably get hung in your chain, gears, something. a snug fit is also a big plus but not tight to the point of pressuring the top of the foot.many now have 2 vecro straps and a ratchet buckle at the top for a truly custom fit
661 shoes run 1/2 size smaller than other shoes.Ex: you wear a 10.5 Shimano shoe, youd go with an 11
661 are available at JesonUSA but Ive never seen any locally here
I have a pair of Shimao M180s that fit really well, are super stiff and ratchet at the top. the toe spikes should NEVER be removed though, no trction at all without them
I also have a pair of 661 Nuevos that are super stiff on the bottom yet all day comfortable on the upper. they have laces so custom fit is out. they also have a skate style outer sole for supreme traction with no spikes
another factor is ventilation. yes for warm weather, no for cold weather, unless you use booties, toe covers or such

Diadora Geko's are pretty good shoes for the price .i have been through 2 pairs of them(cycling)
i also have a pair that i use for hiking only which work quite nicely for that too.
although they aren't quite as nice as my Diadora Skorpione's, they get the job done right nicely for $50.00
As with any shoes i would try on before purchase shoes are another "personal thing" might be comfortable for you & a nightmare for someone else
your weight & strength also come into play with sole stiffness & longevity of it.
hmmm. ...Maybe if your "clipped in" tight enough when you roll off those 40 ft. drops you will stay attached to your bike
laces aren't that bad as long as you keep the ends out of the way they are more of a pain than straps or mechanical cinching buckle but they work. with the Geko's i use both straps & laces, i leave the lace a tad loose & cinch the straps tight, when my feet heat up & slightly swell i loosen up straps on "the fly"
works good for me.
Signed,
Sidi sucks
