I'm new here so plz bear with me and I tried searching for a similar topic and I couldn't find one

Ok I recently got a 2003 Trek 8000 in great condition hardly any miles on it. I have been riding it recently and was wondering how I can change the resistance of the shocks. I have looked online but I couldn't find any simple instructions except some person talking about putting air in the shocks. The fork is a 2003 RockShox Duke XC, and I would like to know how do i adjust the resistance of the shocks? and how is servicing the fork something that can be done when i take it in for a tune up or or is that only a DIY job?

Blow REALLY hard...

just kidding. Check the Rockshox web site, you should be able to find a manual for your Duke. Assuming it IS air adjustable, there will be a shrader valve somewhere on the fork, and you should (but don't necessarily have to) buy a fork pump. $30 / $40, with a gauge that lets you accurately check pressure.

Regardless, the manual should tell you how much air to put in for different riding conditions - I usually put in a little more (15 pounds instead of the recommend 10, for example) because I prefer a stiffer, more precise ride.

Good luck!

thx
just another quick question what is positive and negative pressure in relation to shocks?

My XC Duke fork has a small removable screwin cap on the top left fork arm, that has a shrader valve under it.

If you looked at the manual from the RS website that I linked in your other thread, you will have seen the section about adding positive air pressure. And from the instructions in the manual, the fork doesn't have negative air pressure. You adjust rebound with the dial on the bottom of the leg.

Make sure you use a shock pump (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/115...Shock-Pump.htm) to pump up the fork. Your stand pump you use to pump of the tires will not work.
