new rims
 

I just got my bike and it has the tubeless rims and tires. I don't like the mushy feel of them. I want to get new rims and tires, but am a little unsure which ones would be good for me. I was looking at the Sun Mamouth, but they seem a little heavy to me. So, this leaves me back at square one. I was hoping that some of you with a little more experience would be willing to give me some advice. Thank all of you for your input a head of time.

What size are you too. This makes a big diff in decision making for rims. :)

I would like to be doing some pretty serious riding within the next year. I say this because I am fairly new to the sport and don't now how long it will take me to get comfortable with hard riding. I am also 5'8" and 198#'s. I hope this helps you help me!:D

What kind of tubeless wheels did you get? What is it you don't like? Just the squishy ride. Why not just put in some regular tubes? Am I missing something?

As far as wheelsets or rims only, I tend to lean towards some Mavic rims handbuilt to some nice hubs. If you want mac daddy sweet wheels and have $550-$600, I'd suggest some Chris King ISO hubs laced to a Mavic X317 rim. If you want a burlier rim, but not DH heavy, go with the F219 rim.

If you want more affordable wheels, you can get a set of Shimano XT hubs laced to some rims for about $250-300.

Your are close to a Clydesdale size rider.
Depending on what you can afford will depend on what you get.
For rims I like SUN SingleTrack or Doublewide. Also Mavic 321d or their D-Max (for 2003 you can get just the rims).
For hubs my first choice is Hadley 20mm front and 12mm rear. Second would be Chris King ISO 20mmfr/ standard rr.
Have them laced up 3x with either stright 14g or double butted 14/15g spokes.

If you just want pre-built wheels I have heard good things about
Atomic "Trail Pimps" and "Aircorps". Also SUN/Ringle "Tomac dh/s" wheels.
Hope this helps. Keep in mind all my selections are disc specific so you can not run rim brakes.

I have the mavic UST tubeless. I am not sure but I thought I read somewhere that you can't just put a tube in the wheel. It just gets pinched and then the ride is real squishy. But to answer your questions, yes it is the squishy ride. I don't feel as stable in tight turns and what not. I am in Navarre Fl, just outside of Pensacola. I would love to hook up for a ride.
