Law Regarding Reflectors?

Hey, i just bought a new bike and read the manual because i was bored and it said that it was law in australia that you had to have front back and tyre reflectors and i was wondering whether i should leave them off or put them back on. ><

also, for the tyre reflectors, what did you use to take them off? screwdriver? because one of my reflectors aint coming off

Leave em off.

If a cop would stop you and ticket you for reflectors, then he'd find something else wrong if you had your reflectors on.

What i mean is....if hes a big enough dick to write you a ticket for reflectors, then chances are hes a big enough dick to actively TRY and find something wrong with your bike or your riding even if you had reflectors on.

If the "law" stops you about your missing reflectors tell him to "go suck his PP" then kick him in the nads

if he stops [yo]u, say," whoops i didnt realise they must have fallen off" usually the coppers only give [yo]u a warning...wats the chance that the same cop will see [yo]u again unless [you are] following him

Where abouts in Aus are you? In Adelaide the cops are pretty slack when it comes to bike defects, they even watch you session up certain areas (where they don't really care) and enjoy the spectacle. Only after you and your mates have had enough fun do they tell you to not ride there again.

I just plain and simply don't ride on the road.

Seen to many friends get hurt or injured when they rid on the road.

But I do like the idea of reflective tape.

I live in Victoria to.

The cops do have a "tough guy" attitude. Ian (A Friend) got tolled off for ridding some one else's bike and not wearing a helmet.

You should not get tolled off or even booked if you’re riding your bike on a foot path with no reflectors.

A girl at school was riding on the road with no helmet and got booked. I think it was a $75 fine.

Any way, you should always wear a helmet. You could say there a fashion statement.

I used to wear a roadie helmet the changed to a BMX style helmet.

I felt so awkward at first. Some person left there bag on the ground and I thought it would be fun to bunny hop over it. When I did a few people looked at me and said some thing.

I do hope it was along the lines of "Look at him" and "How amazing that was".

I can only hope.

Wear a helmet and have fun too,
Alex and Foxy

You can get clip on reflectors from $2 dollar shop.

I'm going to take my reflectors that came with my MTB that once are taken off don't come back on. When I need them I'll just pop on the $2 dollar shop ones then take them off when I don't need them I'll just take them off.

That should work,

Just say that you've had the wheels rebuilt due to problems with the dishing,
or that these aren't the orginal wheels.

In the UK all NEW bikes are supposed to be sold with reflectors. funny how most don't stay on very long

holy crap, found a website, not sure it just applies to WA or all of australia though
https://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/cycling/1976.asp

check this section out:
Required equipment

A bicycle must have the following:

*

a bell (or other effective warning device) that functions correctly.
*

an effective foot operated or hand operated rear wheel brake. A front brake is optional.
*

a red reflector fitted to the rear.

When ridden during the hours of darkness or in hazardous weather conditions, a bicycle must also have:

*

a front light showing an unbroken white beam that is clearly visible from 200 metres.
*

a rear light showing an unbroken or flashing red beam that is clearly visible from 200 metres.
*

a yellow side reflector (visible from both sides) on each wheel.
*

yellow reflectors fitted to both side edges of each pedal.

[dont need wheel reflectors unless riding at night, and bell? wtf, that was the first thing i ripped off]
