By price and weight alone it seems the Elite 9.8 would be much better but when I asked my friend about it (who owns both a 6500 and a E 9.8) he (and a chorus of friends) yelled at me like saying "don't be dumb huh, no question, the 6500 owns".

The 9.8 seemed so light and smooth, it made me want to ride it (I couldn't though, flat tire), while the 6500, although a VERY nice bike did not make me WANT it to ride it (I did ride it and it was nice though).

So which is better?

Of course the elite 9.8. The frame is lighter, the components are all superior. I was going to buy a 6500, when I realized that all of treks hardtails are meant for mostly xc only. The frames aren't meant for more than 80mm forks, so I decided to get a specialized. Don't bother getting a trek unless your only going to be doing cross country riding.
