Any input on the Motobecane Fly?
I stopped into a LBS today and found a very nice looking hardtail by Motobecane. For $995 you get the following: XTR rear derailleur, LX front derailler and shifters, Avid Single Digit 7 brakes and levers, LX hubs, Truvativ Stylo Team SL cranks and bottom bracket, XT rear cassette, and a RST Aerosa-Bas fork. The frame is Kinesium 6000 series aluminum and the whole package weighs less than 21 lbs. The frame looks very well made and the company has a good warranty. Anybody have one of these or heard good or bad things about the brand? The tires and seat suck, but for the price those can be upgraded.

bike mag did a review on it not too long ago. I'll look it up and see what i can find

Holy smokes I would get that for the components. Dump that crap fork and buy a good one and you have what sound like a great bike if the frame is solid. :)

Yep, I had a picture of that on my desktop for quite a while until I decided on my Jamis. The Fly just screams style and quality. I'll even bet that RST fork isn't half bad! Nice choice for the money.

I have a roadbike, but I love my new Motobecane! Bicycling magazine gave em great reviews. Not the old French made company but they are putting great bikes together at a cheap price to try and make a name for themselves (again) You won't find a better deal!

I saw some guy on a rst fork, not a 281 like on hte old peugeot, but baja or something, I think they make a half decent fork...
Just like Motobecane, now a "Big name" but still a good bike. |
The frame appears to be very well made. The only downside is it comes for Taiwan, but the Giant and Specialized frames I've been looking at are from there as well. I'm going to the LBS again tomorrow to ride one in my size and see if it really compares to the XTC 2 or Stumpjumper.

Very few frames are north american made. And generally the ones that actually are, are overpriced for the specs.
