Out of curiosity, which types of sunglasses have you personally used and preferred? I'm not talking brands but types as in these

as opposed to these types

Currently I just ride with my regular glasses and they're pretty small framed so my FOV isn't very great. I know I could just use my own knowledge and experience on what it's like to wear glasses while biking, but I wondered which you type you would say is the best choice for biking.
--Oh yeah my main concern is that the second type without the nosepieces would make it uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. Whadya think?

Fit is pretty important. Eyewear without an adjustable nosepiece simply don't work on my face. Also, for cycling, I prefer my sunglasses to be rimless. I wear Rudy Project Kerosenes.

I ve been wearing Sundogs. They could fit better but work ok considering they are prescription. I dont think Sundog makes a MTB specific sunglass but they do have alot of design's that can be adapted into your prescription. I dont use contacts at this point in time so thats why I have prescription glasses. I am just saying you could check out SUNDOG.

i like the second pair. you cant buy sunglasses on the internet. you need to try some pairs. you may not like how they wrap around your head though. i have a pair of oakleys and personnally, i wouldnt trade them for anything else. i love my sunglasses(dont use them for riding though, they are too dark)

khuon: yeah the adjustable nosepiece is a concern of mine. I also like the rimless versions that rudy project puts out but they're pretty expensive for the insert alone, not to mention including the cost of the sunglasses.
BCBike: which pair do you use? I also will be purchasing Rx sunglasses and the Amped is what I was eyeing. I've never ridden with sunglasses on because otherwise I'd be blind and I don't have contacts, haha. So that's why I'm asking for suggestions on the types and the way they fit.
zx108, yeah I'd be going to some eye glasses places to see which fit well then possibly purchasing them online if it's cheaper. You say sunglasses are too dark for riding?
My main concern is the protection of my eyes from those UV rays =P I hate riding for a while then everything starts looking purplish.

One of the main concerns that I had after purchasing my Prescription shades was the ability to wear them with my full face helmet. I bought them with-out checking to see how they fit with the helmet I have. I lucked out because they work well, though I do have some problems with them fogging up easily. The main thing is that you get a set that stay's in place during riding and fits comfortably. The Sundog set that I have came with a few options of shades that you can get. I chose a lighter shade lens which is close to amber [ orange/yellow ] and have been very happy with them because they can be used 24 hours a day. EG I use them for sun protection in the day and also for driving at night because they dim headlights but brighten the road. I was really impressed. I recommend lighter shaded lenses. I have a picture showing an example of how they brighten the road at night. [ not 100% accurate ]

The cheapest pair that fits and filters out the blue-end of the spectrum. Some vent holes are nice. Performance offers some really nice ones under their brand name. Some shade of brown gives very sharp vision with tree cover and on cloudy days by minimizing the blues.
Unfortunately, I had to go to prescription lenses, so I had to give up my better cheepos from perfromance and pay the big $'s.
I have my prescription lenses tinted brown for about 50% transmissivity: that is, they transmit 50% of the light. Typical tinting is for 20%. 50% works well for everything from shorter periods open fields to heavy tree canopy on dark cloudy days.

i bought those Performance glasses with different lenses and they sucked... the most important thing is about eye ware is optical clarity which the Performance one did not have.
so i bit the bullet and shelled out some serious cash for a pair of oakleys and 4 pairs of different shaded lenses (no problems in varying light conditions) and i couldn't be happier.
they fit well, have interchangeable lenses, and are totally optically correct, plus they block out the sun and wind

Safety and shooter glasses also work as well. Need venting??? Just drill some holes.
There are some military glasses out there that are designed to take the impact of shrapnel and protect the eyes. We MTBers will face nothing of the sort. And paying too much $$$ for clear plastic lenses in plastic frames is wasteful.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm looking at getting a pair of rudy project rydon's with sports optical lenses (I saw khuon's suggestion in a previous thread) that way I don't have to use an prescription insert which is very unappealing to me =P Or possibly a rudy project ekynox sx but I dunno if they'll fit my face. I'll just have to find a place to check them out. It's a shame I need Rx sunglasses =P It costs so much more...

Currently I just ride with my regular glasses and they're pretty small framed so my FOV isn't very great. I know I could just use my own knowledge and experience on what it's like to wear glasses while biking, but I wondered which you type you would say is the best choice for biking.
