I'm looking at these Avid bb7 disc brakes from 2001, and was wondering if they would work as good as the new bb7's do, or nearly as good. They look nearly the same to me. I need a new rear brake anyway, and this look like a better route to go than go to my lbs and buy an avid bb5 for 99.99.

hell yes. I'd be all over that if I needed some. The design did change a little when they introduced the 5's but I think it's pretty much aesthetics. I think those should work great with good pads.
