Isn't that kind of a high asking price for such an old bike?

its just sickening for money to be spent like that. "i thought it was a hobby i would enjoy and my friends did it so i'll just spend 2000 bucks on something that i may or may not keep." i ride every other day and all i have is an 04 fuji nevada!

I just don't get it. I did my share of riding cheap bikes before I could ever talk myself into spending that kind of money on a bike. Nobody needs to start out on a $2,000 bike.

I hear you, I started riding in '91 on a used Raliegh Chill, I don't have $2000.00 invested in the first 4 mtn bikes I bought!
But I have to be honest, I have enjoyed passing the newbs on 2k bikes on the trail, you know the kind, more wallet than talent.

I definately know the type. After I got back into riding I rode my old bike for a while (91 or 92 diamond back ascente ex). Then I bought an old GT with a 1" steerer but it did have front suspension. I then bought another GT, it was a decent bike though. After that I bought a Gary Fisher Sugar 1. I shouldn't have been on that bike. I was nowhere near good enough to be able to justify that bike and looking back I am sure people had plenty of good laughs at my expense. I did eventually earn the bike, it took quite a few hours on the trail though.

I got bored and emailed the guy telling him he was asking too much for the bike. He replied:

thank you for the unsolicited feedback...I never claimed to be a bike expert and hence not sure of the depreciation of the bike...didn't think 45% discount off a great bike that is virtually brand new was so foolish and would evoke such laughter - I guess some struggle for any reason to be happy....when I decided to look into mountain biking the appeal was the camaraderie of riding and the acceptance of beginners wanting to learn and explore a new thing - judging from the posts the personalities are about up to par with what I heard after doing some more research

I will ask in your expert opinion, what is a fair price for a mint condition bike like this?
