Choosing 4500 or Marlin
at my LBS I road a Specialized Rockhopper, Trek 4500, & GF Marlin. I ruled out the Rockhopper as the 4500 & Marlin felt better. Any inputs on choosing between these two?

Seriously, these bikes are so similar you should pick the one that looks best to you and "feels" best. They are that close. You may want to compare the frame geometries a bit. I think the Marlin has the Genesis geometry which supposedly places the saddle back farther on the frame.

I have to agree with Ranger about these bikes. My LBS was pushing that same GF on me when I told them I wanted to buy a 4500. I rode the GF around a bit over about a weeks time and the only thing that seemed even remotely better about it was the lockout on the shock. So, since I've had Treks in the past, I got the 4500. But get the one you feel the most comfortable with.

I would pick the Marlin just because I don't like Trek... but then again... Trek owns Fisher but I still like Fisher.
But yeah, I would definitely get a base Rockhopper over both, I like Specialized.

The genesis geometry stretches your torso out a little more and places you in a slightly better position for climbing, so it's slightly more XC overall. The 4500's geometry is a little more multipurpose, but it is still an XC bike. Ranger is right. Pick the one that feels right to you.
I too have noticed that I prefer the Trek/GF riding position over Specialized, but it is highly dependent on the rider.
