    Freeride Camps

    I live in portland oregon and want to do a freeride/downhill camp. I have my own bike (upgraded faith 2) so I wouldn't need to rent. Right now I can do 7' drops to flat (burst my tube on this staircase so never did it again but I landed it), 15' doubles and pretty fast single track/downhill. I don't care where it is, but want it to last about a week (overnight) and cost $1500 or less (definately less if possible). If you can put some links or opinoins, that would be great.
    If it works...... do it!

    Check with the Mt. Hood Ski Bowl - - www.skibowl.com -- Petr runs the mtn biking program there. They have a whole slate of gravity races and such during the season and might have some camps too. Also check what Whistler has. You're close enough. Maelstrom can probably fill you in.

    I checked the skibowl, and plan to go in the summer, but I don't think they have camps. I also checked whistler but theey were all really expensive (The ones I found).

    Maelstrom, where are you located and what should I do?

    Maelstrom is in Whistler. Thought he'd answer by now. I looked and found Shandro's 6-day Summer Gravity Camp with camp/lift and room for $1,599 Canadian. I think that falls inside your $1,500 window doesn't it? (Although at the upper end of your range).

    I was looking at that one. It is exactly what I want (I think), but I think you have to buy every dinner. Also, for that price, it's really hard not to buy a 888 some and some XO derailers/shifters. Do you guys think the camps are worth it?

    Sorry been busy, I guess I missd this. I am in whistler. The Shandro camp gets rave reviews and is well worth the money. Both the experience of riding with some ofthe best, and the lessons as well as the chance to stay and play in whistler really make it value added. There is also one out of sun peaks run by another pro but the name slips my mind.

    You also have Shcleys freeride camp which isn't inclusive of the stay. You can find nightly stays as low as 50usd give or take depending on how close you wanna be.

    If I had the coin (and was young enough to now be embarresed) I would take this in a second. I have tonnes of respect for Shandro and would love this clinic.

    At 1500 for the pass (35 to 40 cdn a day) plus the stay (60 to 90) plus the camp itself. It is value packed. And have you seen the air dome being built this year

    Seriously...take it, it will be worth it.

    After getting ski lessons, there is something to be said for self taught, but being walked through some of the more mentally difficult things involved, I will opt for clinics from now on. You progression in a week would be equal to a year of riding I would almost bet. Considering how versatile the training is, you wouldn't be a djer only.

    Arise! ARISE!!!!
    <raises thread from dead>

    So, has anyone else done the Whistler Summer Gravity Camp? I'm thinking about it, but I'm a scaredy-cat olde-skool XC rider.

    The Gravity Camps look fun. Last year they had pros like Cam McCaul up there.
