I've been getting back into trail-riding/xc after a long hiatus and my old Raleigh rigid wasn't cutting it, so here we are.

Stock except for the pedals which I switched out from clipless to WTB Momentum's. Maybe I will change the saddle soon, have to ride it and see if it's as bad as they say...

My old ride was steel and weighed in at around 36 lbs - This bike is 28.8 according to my possibly inaccurate home-scale. It's amazing how light and nimble this bike feels even just in the LBS parking lot. I can't wait till this bloody rain lets up and I can put it through the paces. Thanks to those here who helped with info and to everyone else for the MTB education in general...here she is:

It's the Hoo Koo E Koo. I wanted to get the lightest hardtail frame in my price range, and this one definitely fits the bill. Made of ZR9000, the strongest, lightest metal KNOWN TO MAN!

Awesome! Any complaints so far? How is the saddle on long rides? Tires?

Ive only had it for a month, and unfortunately have only put 20-25 miles on it, 5-6 miles at a time. So i dont have any "long rides" in yet, and i usually try and stay out of the saddle on the trail. The tires have been decent so far for my local conditions (hardpacked clay, rocks, and roots).
So far I am very happy w/ it.
sorry i couldnt be much help.

Good to hear! I don't spend much time sitting either, but I'm going to try some longer, steeper runs near me so I'll probably be working on seated climbing...

Looking good. I like the graphics and the gunmetal grey colour. I wish more bikes came in that colour. Only suggestion I have is to lose the wheel reflectors. You might also want to ditch the dork-disc (read: spoke protector) as well.

Yeah, I was already planning on getting rid of the wheel and seatpost reflectors. Just wanted to take that "fresh-from-the-LBS" first day picture. My dad would always do that with cars, bikes, etc - Cool to look back on all it's brand new glory after you've thrashed it...

What purpose does the spoke protector serve?

To keep the chain from droppping into your spokes. But if your low limit screw is set porperly, there is no need for it.

Just to add to that. Those plastic spoke protectors may seem like a good idea but they're generally worthless on a MTB. Cheesy looks aside, they'll eventually (like wheel reflectors) break apart and end up as either trail litter or sharp objects in your pocket waiting to be properly disposed of if you're trail conscious.

I know what you mean. I still have a crappy scan of an old picture of me with my then new 1990 Nishiki Ariel the day I got it. It still had its wheel (and pedal) reflectors. Also check out that lycra-covered mushroom helmet.
