Henry Coe put the Smack Down on Me...

Well, I decided to face my fears and ride at Henry Coe State Park. I been there a few times, but never was able to make a loop out of the ride... 'till yesterday

You climb about 1200' by the 2nd mile, but all the climbing happens within 1 mile! It's Steep!!! We're talking like 18% grade! Relentless, no leveling out, no recovery! Actually, I couldn't even ride all the way up it... (I had to physically push my bicycle up the mountain for maybe 1/3 mile), no kidding! :irritated

But then, you crest the first ridge and the trails are made for mere mortals once again! There is some GREAT single track out there! Parked at Hunting Hallow...I rode the Grizzly Gulch Trail which traversed the ridge line and swept me around to the Hot Springs enterance. It was great, fast tacky singletrack (well, not really tacky - kind of like a baseball infield type of loose dirt on top of REALLY hard packed clay, easy on the brakes...) I ate ****, but that's cool! Hasn't happened in a while... should've never mentioned that whole "haven't crashed since I shaved my legs" bit!

I just washed out in a high speed turn, scraped up my knee and banged my shoulder - the camera was fine!).

SO, Henry Coe kicks ass! You just need to get up inside the park... I'm seriously considering a 20t chainring! I'm so frusterated that I couldn't ride the whole trail. I guess my fitness has a long way to go yet... but that's cool too! If I can conquer Coe, than The Sea Otter will be like taking candy from a baby, except the candy will be the podium and the babies will be hard core mountain bike racers that do nothing but ride and train and ride and train and diet and ride and train and diet... Well, maybe I'll just try to be competitive...

Peace Out,

Hawk
